ABC verses - S to Z

These are the last of the verses we learned this summer. It seemed the latter ones were harder to remember, except for Z. It always reminds the kids of a familiar song.

We will be learning a verse a week in MFW. This week it was an easy one, John 3:16, which they already knew. We've been talking about maps and globes, learning the names and location of the seven continents, and making our own maps. In Science, we are learning about how God designed each animal to live in it's environment, habitats, food chains, and seasonal changes (that's this week). We tried a nature walk at the park, but didn't find much. We find more in our own backyard. Just today, the kids found two more frogs. Hannah is good at catching them. She also found some wildflowers/weeds that she gathered and said she was going to research.

Josiah focuses on a letter a week and a number each day. This week was Ss. S is for sun, and we talk about how Jesus is the Light of the World. I also do speech with him using Straight Talk, published by NATHHAN. We are currently working on the "K" sound at the beginning and middle of words. He does fine when it's at the end of a word. He's learning math with popsicle sticks and Cuisenaire Rods.

Hannah is using Singapore Math book 2B. She will start using Spelling Power in a week or two. For English, she is using Primary Language Lessons.

Yay, the first week of school is done!

More of the ABCs - J to R

To set the record straight - We will not officially start school until September. We are still on our summer "schedule", which this year has been very relaxed. We are still working on our memory verses, though.

Ephesians 4:29

Do you know what Ephesians 4:29 says? Some time back, Hannah had the assignment of putting a jumble of words together to form this passage of scripture. Josiah had his own set of words to play with, too.
Here Hannah is working at it. "Words with capitol letters probably come first and words with a period come at the end of a sentence."
Then she added her own choice of pictures. These were from when we did the story of Nabal's wife, Abigail. Anyone want to offer an application?

Josiah enjoyed using the tape roller and cutting out his own pieces.
