Guess Who?

Ready for a little game?
Play the video and see if you can tell me what animal makes this sound.

One of the noises you heard was a little boy, but what was the other one? Can you guess?

Okay, did you guess?

It was a . . .

FROG!!!!!

But, you knew that, didn't you? Josiah is good at catching all kinds of critters. That's why we got him another habitat for his birthday. Froggy enjoyed his stay.

Eyeing the fire-bellied toads (above) and here under the green light.
Then Josiah was kind and released him.

Camping, Mazing, and Walking

I'm thankful for a fun-filled weekend. Boy, am I tired! But it was good to be out in the fresh (although sometimes cold) fall air and get some much needed exercise and be with friends.

Fun Friday - Answers

Thank you Abby for submitting your guesses. I have posted them for everyone to see at the end of last Friday's entry.
Here are the answers.

1.  A hummingbird moth! That's the only one Abby did not know and it was a hard one. It took me a while to research it and figure it out. If you google the word, there are some videos of this fascinating creature in action. It even looks like a hummingbird when it flies. That is what helped me to figure it out, because when we caught it, it was trying to get out of the pool. It was right at the edge, wings going "90 mles an hour", but too wet to get take-off. It must have exhausted itself or was damaged by the salt water. We offered it sugar water, but were not able to revive it. So sad, and it is the only one I have ever seen and the first time I had ever heard of it.

2. Lunar moth, of course.

3. Green Anole hiding in the bush. Did you see it?

4. Ladybird larvae. Yep, it moved.

Fun Friday

Four Questions for Friday

1. Can you guess what this is?

2. Do you know the name of this moth?

3. Can you find and identify the critter in the bush?

4. Look carefully at the cover of this book. One of these insects is alive and not just a picture. Can you figure out which one and identify it?

I will post the answers in about a week.

Saturday Night Game Night - Mom's 2nd Pick

After supper, the kids get their baths and we head into our game of Apples to Apples.

I had gotten this game for Hannah for her birthday and I was looking forward to playing it as a family. It was fun and we were able to play a few rounds with Theron winning two and Josiah winning one.

Saturday Night Game Night - Theron's 2nd Pick

This was a fun, fast game to test our knowledge of the facts. It was Josiah and Mom against Hannah and Dad in this game of Intelligent Design vs. Evolution.

If your team answers the question correctly, you roll the dice and move your brain. The game ends when one team reaches the end. The winner is the team with the most brain cards.

Saturday Night Game Night - Josiah's Pick

Wouldn't you know it would be a war game?

We had to work as teams. Me and Josiah against Theron and Hannah. There was no way of seeing the other teams game board, because we were in seperate rooms, communicating via intercom system.

It got pretty lively, with sound effects of booming and splashing water and gurgling of sinking ships.

This was our first time playing as a family, and I think it was a good choice for Josiah. He learned how to read a graph pretty quickly. Our team did not win, but we fought well. I mean played well.
Very clever, Theron, thinking of using the intercom.

Saturday Night Game Night -Hannah's Pick

Our family is pretty predictable. I knew Theron would choose Risk and I knew what I would choose (of course) and I kenw what Hannah would choose. I predict that Josiah will need help choosing, as he is not that accustom to board games. He will want to choose a Wii game, which is not what we're looking for here.
Without further ado, here is Hannah's favorite game. . .

Clue

character of choice - Miss Scarlet

Mrs. Peacock all blurry
Josiah and I played as a team, so I could help him. Hannah was very close to solving the mystery, but Daddy beat her to it! We had alot of fun and laughter.
Oh and we actually played on Friday night instead, since I was in charge of a Father/Daughter dinner on Saturday night. Post coming soon.

Saturday Night Game Night - Mom's Pick

One of my favorite games - The quick draw game, Pictionary. We might have gotten off to a rocky start, but everyone finally settled down and by the end of the game, we were all having a good time. I know it's not important who wins, but mine and Hannah's team won, even though Josiah and Theron were tough to beat.

My children's creative sketches

Josiah's "Knight" and "Police Car"

Hannah's "hat" and bumpy "concrete"

Saturday Night Game Night

What better thing to do on cold winter nights than play games. Something we have not done in a while, so recently we declared Saturday night "Game Night" to remedy that problem and foster more family togetherness.
Theron got to choose the first game.

Theron's pick
I must say this is not my favorite game. My defeats were too numerous to mention and everyone knows it's no fun to lose all of the time to someone who could play the game with their eyes closed. But the rules were that we play whatever game is chosen. (Next week is my turn to choose) So we all played and were good sports. Josiah teamed up with me (mostly rolling the dice). We could not finish the game on Saturday night, so it had to be carried over to tonight.
It looked as if Theron would win as usual, but then the game took a turn and my yellow pieces started becoming more abundant and spreading out over the board until it was just Hannah and myself left.

Yellow takes over the world!
Hannah hung in their for a little while to see if she could overcome me, but to no avail. I must say that I could not have done it without her. I think Theron figured out he was being ganged up on, though. He said next time Josiah gets to play his own pieces (so they can gang up on us).

Celebrating Summer Birthdays

On July 25th, my family came for a swim and cookout to celebrate my birthday, as well as my sister and brothers'. Their birthdays are in August, so they got to party early. I have one other brother, who lives in Oregon. His special day is in May. Too bad, he couldn't come. Guess it is just too far.
My mom had written each of us a poem and I want to share mine with you.

I got creative, too and made individual personalized cupcakes for everybody. Got the idea from a friend. Thanks, Mitzi.

Me and my siblings. Wesley, Leah, myself, and Daniel (oops, he's not there. He's in Oregon.)

And last, but not least is a game. What is it? The first person to figure it out will get. . .

. . . the satisfaction of knowing they are very clever!

Another Guessing Game?

Does anyone want to guess how many people were here today? Did anyone count?
