Let's Review with Mr. Bones

Hey kids, it's time for a review. What have you learned about the human body this year?

Now if you can't be serious, I am going to have to talk to someone else. Maybe Mr. Invisible over there will have a brain.

Finally, someone who has a brain. Mr. Invisible, it seems that you might have enough GUTS to play it straight with me. What, you want me to go head to head with you on GeoSafari? Maybe you're a little too brainy for me.

I think I'll just try my hand, I mean feet, at dancing.

Dancing to 'Dem Bones'

Excuse me, I think I'll cut in here while Mr. Bones is dancing. This IS MY blog, right? I was really excited to find the things you see here at such great prices. Mr. Invisible came from the $1 Store years ago and he does open up so you can "dissect" him. The only thing that does not come out is his brain. And then, there's the GeoSafari card on the parts of the human body (also in a pack from the afore mentioned Thrift Store). We were able to use all of these items to do a fun review of our science studies.

Mr. Bones, if you can't control yourself. I am going to have to put you in that nice plastic dome that you came with. It WILL keep the dust off of you.

"What will I do next?"

Okay, but I can't have you disturbing the kids while they are doing their school work now, can I? And we learned more than just about the skeletal system. We learned about most of the body systems. Only one more to cover. . . the reproductive system.

Sounds interesting, but I can't help you with that one.

I know, but that's okay. I have some really good books to use. Maybe I'll share about those on a future blog.

My Braid Craze

In January, I decided to try my hand at braiding a denim rug. I had some worn out jeans and khakis with holes and lots of "hand me down" thread. Theron is sure that I cut up some of his good pants, though ; o Most of my braiding was done while listening to the Bible with the family. By the end of the month I had finished.

I enjoyed it so much, I couldn't wait to start another one. I did not want to cut up my husband's good pants : ) , so I went to the Outlet Thrift Store on Highway 29 and bought $2.00 of pants for 25 cents each. This was the beginning of February, so I thought . . . "I will make one rug every month."

This rug got extra time, because I worked on it during martial arts practice and while at my mom's for a three day stay. It's done and February is not yet over.

While at my mom's, she gave me three bags full of pants that were going to be thrown out (She and Dad volunteer at the Clothes Been in Dallas, Georgia). I brought them home and washed them and started cutting and began yet another rug.

My Third Rug!

It's fun doing these colors. You can almost see hearts swirling around it. It's going together quite fast, too! Every spare minute (while the kids are doing their workbooks, while waiting for the water to boil, before the kids get up, after the kids go to bed. . .  I think this might be an obsession!) is spent at the "rug table".
The finished size of each rug is about 30" X 37". They make nice accent rugs. I wonder if I will be able to sell any of them. If I keep this up, I could have 24 rugs made by the end of the year. It would be good if my hobby were a profitable one.

Hannah's Birthday Party

Hannah threw a wonderful party for her friends on Friday with a Wizard of Oz theme. They played 'Give Toto a bone', 'Wizard, may I?', had a lunch, made Valentines, and had cake and icecream. Hannah opened presents and every girl went home with a goody basket.
She's ELEVEN! Wow, how the time has flown.

Free picture slideshow made with Smilebox Friday evening, we surprised Theron with an early birthday party at Q-Zar. He got to play lazer tag with his best friends and eat cheese cake. The kids played games like Skee ball and air hockey. They brought home lots of prizes. Theron really was surprised! Thanks Groupon and Q-Zar. But thanks most of all to God, who gave me a man with such heart. Theron is thankful I forgot to bring my camera.

Unless the vessels that supply the heart muscle get clogged (causing a heart attack), this little guy pumps nonstop night and day to keep you alive without you even thinking about it. The only thing you need to think about is taking care of it with a good diet and exercise.
 Oh, by the way, the blood carrying the oxygen to the different parts of the body is red, while the oxygen depleted blood is blue. The blood cells give it that color.
Josiah enjoyed learning about white blood cells destroying germs.
Then, there are platelets that help the blood to clot when we get a cut.

Flocks on Friday

I believe these are Cedar Waxwings. They kept flying back and forth across the backyard and zooming down for a drink. Never staying in one place for long. There are many more than you see in each picture. It was amazing to watch and lasted for quite a while before they left to visit someone else.
Also, as this was taking place in the back, Red-winged blackbirds, by the dozen were grazing on something in the front, but by the time I got my camera and snapped pictures of the waxwings, the blackbirds had moved on.
