Passover

                              I

                       Passover

For the past few years, we have celebrated with a simple seder at home. Last night, we had the privilege of celebrating  it with four other families in the home of our friends. I tried making a couple of new dishes that I had never tried before, a vegetable kugel and chocolate mousse cake (pictured above). The kugel was okey, but the mousse, mmmmmmm. I think it might become a passover tradition.
I forgot to take my camera, so I hope Erin got some good pictures. It was lively with as many children as adults in attendance. How sweet it was to hear them read and take part in the seder. The young ones had their own table with a wooden seder plate.
Grape juice was spilled and matzah was munched and we sang and thanked God for delivering us from our bondage to sin.
Next year in Jerusalem! That's what they always say anyway.
Now for a wonderful week of no leaven, as we approach the time to celebrate our Risen Lord.

Bug Season - Bee Fly

Recently we found this at the Thrift Store for 50 cents.

With Josiah's interest in little critters, it was a must-have for that price. And yesterday, he was outside and caught something in his net. We put it in the habitat for observation.

Look closely. It is on the little "hut".

Another view

We looked through our Insect Book and identified it.

Bee Fly

The book says, "The fuzzy, squat bee fly lives in nests of bees, and it's larvae often attack and feed on larvae of the bees and other insects." I wonder if that includes yellow jackets.

A New Friend for Brown Frog

You just can't leave a frog lonely.

Even if you spruce up his place with moss and a new look, he still will be dreadfully quiet. Enter Brown Frog's new friend.

Hannah has named it Wizard. It's mostly brown, but with a some touches of green on it's back. Very unique!
They are both happy and we are hearing the joyful noises coming from the frog habitat once more.

Counting Blessings

I've been reading Ann's blog for quite some time.
Now I'm reading her book.

an early Mother's Day present
Now, I understand the why. Why count One Thousand Gifts? Because God desires it. Because I need it.
It stirs a desire for more of God, less of me. I want to partake of Him everyday and count my blessings in this special way. To see a change in the way I see, more of Him and less of me. Count the gifts that He has given me. Rid myself of an unthankful, proud heart. Accept the gifts He gives and speak my thanks, pointing others to Him.

1. Families gathered lifting voices to the Father in praise

2. Dogwood blossoms lifting to the light.

3. Sweet memories of a young girl lifted on pew next to grandmother singing 'Love Lifted Me'.

4. The music making everything light.

God is Light. In Him there is no darkness.
I'm thankful for the ways He lifts my heart closer to His, closer to the Light.

A Poem of Spring

Spring is oh so beautiful,
I know you will agree,
The blossoms opening everywhere,
A welcome sight to see.

Especially those that promise fruit,
so tasty and so sweet,
My mouth is watering even now,
As I think of what I'll eat.

And what of mint?
The smell of it, can surely clear the mind,
It only takes a little bit,
No scent on earth's so fine.

The tulips in their cozy shell,
They open and they close,
In sun, "Hello", at dusk, "Goodbye",
As if to take a doze.

The noisy cardinal visiting here,
Eating in the breeze,
Is not at all affected by,
The stuff that makes me sneeze.

So Long, Lucky

As you can see in this fuzzy video (my camera does not do good on close-ups), Lucky is fast at catching crickets. He was always the one to swim away quickly, whenever we came close.

Yesterday, he slowed down and started looking like he was shedding his skin. The other frog had done this, so we weren't worried. But by evening, he was floating and lifeless. No more cheerful chirping sounds coming from the aquarium. I guess they only do this when there is more than one. I worried about breaking the news to Hannah, but she took it well.

I dug a hole and let Hannah do the actual burying (with rubber gloves on). She buried him and decorated the site with rocks, sticks, and flowers. How sweet.
