Double Birthday with Family

Today, some of our family came over to celebrate Hannah and Josiah's birthdays. We had Sante Fe soup and chips, and cake and ice cream, of course.

Josiah looks like the "protective big brother" here with his second cousin, Allie. She is such a cuddler!

Look at her leaning on Theron while Josiah "reads" his birthday card. So cute!

I think Josiah's favorite gift today was the Lightening McQueen remote control car from Aunt Leah and Uncle Robert. He has played with it all day.

Hannah adored this FurReal baby panda from cousin Valerie and Jesse, Mai, and Allie. It moves and makes sounds as if it's real. Good practice for her becoming a veteranarian, she says (or maybe a mom?).

Here's the cake!

And here. . .

but look again.
Yes, it's a reversible cake.
On one side it had a "9" for Hannah
and on the other it has a "6" for Josiah.
(He won't officially be six until March 12th)

Exploring Kenya

Jambo! We had a great time learning about Africa and grasslands. The world's tallest land animal, the world's biggest land animal, and the world's fastest land animal all live in Africa.
Hannah enjoyed putting a diaroma together as we read this book. All of the pieces were inside the book.

Our read aloud was about David Livingstone. We also read short stories about him in Hero Tales, but I love hearing all the details of his explorations and discoveries, all with the goal of sharing the gospel with unreached people groups in Africa.

It has taken us longer to get through this country, because of a birthday celebration, snow, and field trips.

I really wanted to take the kids to the zoo, but weather did not seem good for that. We will have to wait for warmer days.

We have two sponsored children in Africa, so it was good to learn more about their area. One of them is in Ethiopia, which is near Kenya.

We did not do anything in the way of crafts or food for this country. Guess I was too busy making a Cinderella dress.

Hannah was also happy to get to see Lion King II. She had ordered it from the library and it finally came in.

On to Saudi Arabia next.

Scones for my Valentine

- Heart-shaped scones with blueberries -
My first attempt ever at making scones, but when my hubby
mentioned that he liked them, I had to try.

Happy Birthday, Dear!

By the way, they turned out pretty good.

Turned to Snow

Theron took our oldest to the Capitol on Friday, two days after she turned nine. A fun adventure for them both, while the younger and I had our own adventures. The day started out normal and then it turned to snow.

Josiah was excited. According to him, God made snow just so we could have fun. I, on the other hand was concerned for the safety of Dad and daughter.

All went well though and we did have fun in the snow, he and I.

Dress-up and Dance!

My creative kids put on a show for us again. These shows don't usually have alot of talking in them, although my kids can sure talk. They seem to be mostly music and dance and you are left to your own interpretation. This one even included a costume change, and a bow and curtsey at the end.

Hannah is sitting because she wants to. . .

Josiah fell down, but he keeps smiling.

Back on his feet!

The End. . . . until next time.

Wordless Wednesday - Bloonies

Josiah said that this was the best day of his life!
I think that's an exaggeration, but fun anyway.
