FCFE End of Year Celebration

We had a great time watching the displays of talent, eating, fellowshipping, making things with pipe cleaners and beads, and eating some more.

Class President
Hannah usually shares a talent, but this year was different. She had just gotten her top orthodontic appliance (poor planning on my part), which makes it hard to talk normally. Look! I know, you can't see it. She is adjusting well, too it, though. For something that's called a Rapid Palatal Expander, it's not as bad as I thought. Two weeks ago, she got a lower expander that is removable and they call it a retainer, but it expands, too. She is being very responsible and is taking good care of her appliances and her teeth. She chipped a front tooth in the pool on Sunday, but you can't even tell that in the picture, either. Her lip covers it and really it is not that noticable unless you are looking for it. So glad that it was not severe.
She has breezed through her lessons this year. She loves to read and says her favorite subject is Science. She's a good helper around the house and sometimes helps her brother with a school lesson.

Class Clown

Josiah has had a pretty normal year for a 1st grade boy. He would rather play that sit and do reading, writing, and 'rithmatic. He loves to interact and entertain. He still likes to find interesting wildlife and identify it. He has a tender heart and is very thoughtful. He likes to help when there is something to be lifted or carried. His favorite subject is science also, especially when he can experiment and discover things for himself. He has made great strides in reading this year and enjoys reading his Bible Reader and nonfiction books about animals.

Mrs. Green's Visit - Part 3

Stranger

One week ago, a stranger arrived in a red car (I mean cup).

He seemed a bit shy. I thought I would introduce myself.

As I peered in, I noticed something was not right. He was so still and when I told him my name, he did not respond.

I tried to roll him out of that thing, but I realized it was best to let him come out in his own time. He must have sustained an injury of some sort.

Well, finally he decided to make himself at home. After he ate and drank and got warmed up, he moved about shakily.

In order to make this new guy feel comfortable here, I figure I might as well turn over a new leaf (I mean shed a skin).

We have been getting along splendidly. I'll share more about that next time.

Fun Friday - Answers

Thank you Abby for submitting your guesses. I have posted them for everyone to see at the end of last Friday's entry.
Here are the answers.

1.  A hummingbird moth! That's the only one Abby did not know and it was a hard one. It took me a while to research it and figure it out. If you google the word, there are some videos of this fascinating creature in action. It even looks like a hummingbird when it flies. That is what helped me to figure it out, because when we caught it, it was trying to get out of the pool. It was right at the edge, wings going "90 mles an hour", but too wet to get take-off. It must have exhausted itself or was damaged by the salt water. We offered it sugar water, but were not able to revive it. So sad, and it is the only one I have ever seen and the first time I had ever heard of it.

2. Lunar moth, of course.

3. Green Anole hiding in the bush. Did you see it?

4. Ladybird larvae. Yep, it moved.

Mrs. Green's Visit - Part 2

A New Home

" Well guys, it's me again, Mrs. Green. The kids were going to let me go one day. They took me outside, opened the door, lifted me to freedom, but I don't know what got into me. I just sat there like a knot on a log. I guess I like it here. They feed me. What can I say?"

Bug Hotel

"And hey, I got upgraded. I'm no longer in the Bug Hotel. I got a new "pad". I call it the Lizard Lodge."

Lizard Lodge
"It's alot roomier with leaves, sticks, and rocks to climb on. The temperature stays pretty comfortable here, too. You know, I'm kind of sensitive to that."
"I have some neighbors, but they don't bother me. They like to stay in the bog. Too wet for me. I don't mean to be anti-social, but I think I'll let them have their space. They play music sometimes, but it's not too loud and it's actually pleasant. Puts me right to sleep. Speaking of which, I think I'll go take a nap now."
